Relay needling on the back with three insertions to treat flaccidity syndrome
Relay needling on the back with three insertions to treat flaccidity syndrome
by Du Ruze.
This paper introduces the method of 'relay needling' which involves the insertion of 6 cun long needles up the spine from Changqiang DU-1 to Dazhui DU-14 in order to treat muscular dystrophy. Three needles are inserted in sequence obliquely along the skin until Dazhui DU-14 is reached. Each new needle is inserted at the end point of the previous one and manipulated three times with lifting, thrusting and twirling, before being withdrawn immediately and the next one inserted. Two case histories of flaccidity syndrome are given to illustrate the effectiveness of this method, with additional body points given according to diagnosis.
