This multi-centre, double-blind, controlled trial included 240 patients, who were randomly divided into a treatment group, who took a modified version of the herbal formula Si Shen Wan to warm the Kidney and fortify the Spleen, and a control group, who took placebo medicine (Chao Mai Ya, Hordei Fructus germinantus). Both groups took medicine daily for four weeks. The treatment group experienced a statistically significant improvement in their condition, which was maintained at six-month follow-up. [Oct 2013]
