Acupuncture Anaesthesia in Surgery and the Use of Integrative Medicine in the Treatment of Breast Cancer Sequelae

In the following case history acupuncture was successfully used as the sole means of anaesthesia for breast reconstruction surgery following cancer. It also facilitated pre-operative procedures, and when used in conjunction with western medical procedures, substantially reduced patient disability, duration of hospitalisation and cost. Although scalp acupuncture anaesthesia is used in surgery in China it seems little known in the west to date and this article may actually be the first record in English of its use.
