The purpose of this paper is to explore recent research into facial cosmetic acupuncture (FCA), which suggests that positive results from the treatment may be due to the effects of relatively deep needle insertion into the facial muscles rather than solely due to collagen induction from needling into the more superficial dermis. These results suggest that FCA may operate through a wider variety of biological processes than previously thought.
