Speaker(s): Florian Beissner is a Professor of Systems Neuroscience at Hannover Medical School and the Scientific Director of the Insula Institute for Integrative Therapy Research. He holds a physics degree, studied Chinese Medicine at the University of Porto, and earned his doctorate at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysics in 2010. He has authored over 40 papers and received multiple awards. His current research focuses on combining bodily stimulation techniques, like acupuncture, with psychotherapy, as well as exploring older medical literature.

This is the annual Hugh MacPherson Memorial Lecture 2024, held online by Northern College of Acupuncture to celebrate the research legacy of our co-founder. Join Florian to: • explore the historical evolution of meridian concepts from the Han Dynasty, gaining insights ancient textual resources. • the distinction between the physical body and the felt body as described in the classics. • the innovative use of sensation drawings in qualitative and quantitative research to visualize felt bodily phenomena as well as techniques for analysing such drawings.
